Tay Township Heritage Photos

We are currently reorganizing the collection of heritage photos at Tay Township.

Some of the subjects include:

  • Prominent buildings
  • CPR history
  • Historic ships

There are over 100 photos ranging from the late 1800s to present. Here is an example of something from the archives.

We have lost too many landmarks of the area over the years including the trestle, grain elevators and storage sheds. I hope that more local history can be preserved for future generations. Ed Hagen Waterloo Ontario

I have a family fact quilt made by my grandmother (Margaret Ludlow nee Faulkner) in 1907 that includes names of family and friends, boats and businesses relating to her family and their activities. Included are Fesserton School, Fairview School, (Fairview homestead was Margaret’s grandparent McGrath’s farm) Evergreen farm (the Ludlow aka German family homestead), Rose Pine, Blue Bell, Lord Roberts(lake boats?)), McCormick Binder, Massey Harris Binder, Dora Smith ?Nell Price? may also be lake boat names. I have not been able to place them in the family narrative. I am interested to know more, especially about the lake boats. Any idea where should I look? JE

If your family comes from Oro-Medonte Township you might try their heritage committee. Another good source is the Huronia Museum in Midland.
